Product Description

Foam fire sprinkler heads are devices specifically designed for spraying air-foam mixtures. Its main function is not only to evenly spray the foam mixture onto the protected area, but more importantly, it can fully mix the foam mixture with air through specific structures (such as air intake holes, splash plates, etc.), generating and spraying a large amount of high-quality fire-extinguishing foam.

These foams cover the surface of the burning object and extinguish fires through the triple effects of suffocation (isolating oxygen), cooling (evaporating water in the foams), and isolation (preventing the evaporation of flammable vapors), especially being highly effective for Class B (liquid fires).

The Difference Between Open and Closed Types

• The outlet of the open foam nozzle is open and there are no heat-sensitive elements to seal it. It is usually composed of a nozzle body and a splash disc or deflector for forming and diffusing foam. It doesn't start automatically by itself. When a fire breaks out in the protected area, the fire alarm system is triggered or manually activated, and the control valves (such as deluger valves) open. Only then will the foam mixture flow into the pipeline network and be simultaneously sprayed out from all open nozzles, covering the entire protected area.

• Closed foam sprinkler heads: Extremely similar to the sprinkler heads of common automatic sprinkler systems, their outlets are sealed by heat-sensitive elements (such as fusible alloys or glass foam). The pipe is usually filled with a pressurized foam mixture. Only when a fire breaks out and the flames or high-temperature smoke rise near the nozzle, causing its temperature-sensing element to reach the predetermined temperature (such as 68℃, 93℃) and break, will the nozzle open and spray foam. It starts "one by one".

• High reliability: No external detection system is required; it operates based on its own physical characteristics.
• More economical use of water and foam: only turn on the sprinkler heads affected by the fire.
• There is a delay in response: It is necessary to wait for the heat to accumulate enough to activate the temperature-sensing element, which is slightly slower than the open system linked to the detection system.
• Not suitable for rapidly spreading fires: If the fire spreads faster than the opening speed of the sprinkler heads, the effect will be greatly reduced.
• There is a risk of misoperation or blockage: The temperature-sensing element may accidentally break due to mechanical damage or corrosion.
